Abby Price on Blueberry Matcha & 'Famesick'
Plus, the Abbode founder's secret for chic on-the-go touch-ups.
Welcome back, friends. I kinda love this time of year when everyone leaves the city and things are a bit quieter. It’s a good time for a mid-year reset, I find. Even if my to-do list hasn’t really budged, in my mind I’m less frantic.
This week, I’m excited to have Abby Price, the founder and CEO of NYC shop Abbode. Not only does Abby know all things on-trend (after all, Abbode’s embroidery is the moment), she is also newly engaged—mazel! Ahead, find out her go-to matcha and restaurant spots in the city, shopping faves, and more.
But first, keeping tabs:
We finally started Widow’s Bay and everyone is right, it’s great. And it isn’t too scary for me, a certified wimp.
Also, go see The Invite in theaters, it’s SO fun.
I’m currently in my mango era, and am loving Borntostandout’s Gold Juice fragrance. It smells like fresh-squeezed mango and isn’t overly sweet.
For the Bravo peeps: My hilarious friend Eric Williams was on Watch What Crappens last week to talk Next Gen NYC, and it’s a must-listen.
And now…
Meet the Gatekeeper:
Name: Abby Price
Calls home: NYC
In a nutshell: Creative, gemini, dog mom
What was the last great meal you ate?
Basically the entire menu at Chambers. It’s perfect place to go on a double date because every dish on the menu is good. The constants like the bread and chicken are must-gets, but any seasonal appetizers or mains are always insanely delicious. Anytime sweet breads are on the menu I’m ordering it. The most underrated place I want to gatekeep, because luckily as of now you can typically walk in on a Friday or Saturday night.
What’s your favorite coffee (or tea) order?
These days I have been loving the blackberry pie matcha from Rhythm Zero or the Confetti from Pantry. I recently started using whole milk and I can’t go back to almond. If I truly want to feel like I am in Japan I love 12, but it is not easily accessible so I leave it for special occasions.
What is the seemingly random product you can’t stop talking about?
Fara Homidi lip compact. I do not leave the house without it! Nothing makes you feel chicer than doing a touch-up in a compact instead of your phone camera.
What’s your fashion secret weapon?
My Bulgari Serpenti watch. It levels up every outfit without being too in your face.
What’s your favorite place to shop?
Recently I’ve been shopping at Dôen nonstop. Anytime I get one of their pieces it is something I wear over and over, and I got my absolutely perfect engagement party dress that I dream about wearing again daily. Every time I go in the store I end up leaving with something perfect.
What’s your current desert island beauty product?
Eadem Le Chouchou lip balm. I’ve always had a pipe dream of coming out with a lip balm brand that feels like Aquaphor but tints like a gloss, and unfortunately they beat me too it. My preferred shade is Bissap Glaze for the perfect pop of color that brings your whole look together.
What’s the last book you weren’t able to put down?
Famesick by Lena Dunham. I’ve been listening to it on Spotify and keep avoiding calling my family on walks just to get in a few more minutes. It’s so fascinating learning about the other side of fame, and as a huge Girls fan I love contextualizing who Lena is compared to Hannah. She is so talented it’s wild.
What hotel do you recommend to everyone?
Claridges! The best hotel in the world with the most unbelievable service. I will never forget we asked them to hold our leftovers and when we called to get them back they served it back to us as the most luxury room service heated and plated, gave us free breakfast, and let us check in at 9 am on arrival, and brought our bags to our next hotel for free.
What’s your current favorite scent?
The Sidia Hotel Chelsea candle. It is fabulous. The smell is sweet and summery but still rich, it is addicting and every time I pass it on my table I feel spiritually compelled to pick it up and take a whiff. [Ed. note: This collab is sadly sold out, and the brand confirmed it was a limited edition. Womp!]
